What is it with teams finishing second on points table and winning titles in PSL? 2019 (Quetta Gladiators), 2020 (Karachi Kings), 2021 (Multan Sultans) and now the Qalandars. Was a long wait for the maiden title, but the Lahore Qalandars couldn't have asked for a better place to seal it. In front of their home ground, with a full capacity crowd and the nation's best fast bowler leading them to a title. You just cannot script such moments. Sigh! That's that for PSL 7 then. Shaheen Afridi, Lahore Qalandars skipper: It's a great achievement. We have been waiting for 6 years and I want to thank the Lahore crowd. They have come out in numbers and supported us throughout. A lot of people supported me, Hafeez guided me during lot of pressure moments so thanks to all who supported me. The fight we showed as a team throughout the tournament is really fantastic and we had that attitude to fight till the last ball.

Player of the Tournament and skipper of Multan Sultans, Mohammad Rizwan: The two teams in the finals are totally deserving of the title. There's always pressure in the final and the team that handles the pressure well wins the game. The way Hafeez handled the pressure was the turning point. They took the game deep and soaked up the pressure much better than us. It's a great learning opportunity for a lot of them. We are humans and mistakes do happen, so it's overall a learning curve for all of us as a team.

Mohammad Hafeez, Player of the Match: I want to thank each and everyone here and thanks to management for believing in my ability as well. We all know it's all about absorbing pressure in the final. The good partnership between me and Brook got us back into the game and then Wiese finished it nicely. We have been working hard for the last 7 years and they now get the reward for all the hard work. I am proud of how he (Shaheen Afridi) led the team. He gave us full authority and gave us the freedom to express ourselves, I want to offer him special congratulations.

Zaman Khan: The team put up a total and Afridi led us well. The bowlers just backed it up. Shaheen bhai has supported me as an elder brother and looked after me really well. I enjoy bowling with some of the best bowlers (Afridi, Rauf and Rashid) in the world.

Samit Patel: Absolutely (confident of winning). Just how we went about it today was outstanding, after being three down in the powerplay and the Prof (Hafeez) just showed his class. He's got a lot of experience and he's shown it all tonight and we put a good display with the ball as well. If you look around our squad we have a lot of self belief and with a leader like that, he just pulls out the best from you. He is always fired up and is a world?beater, you just have to see his performances, they are outstanding and the pace he bowls at and his mate at the other end Haris, they always want to bowl fast and they did bowl fast.

Abdullah Shafique: It is feeling really good. This is the first title for Lahore and we are all very proud. It was an important catch as it was an important wicket and luckily I was able to hold on (referring to Rossouw's catch). The crowd are energetic and hopefully they continue to support us in the same way, even in the Australia series.

David Wiese: I thought the batters before me set it up nicely. When I went out I had Brook at the other end and together we could get to a competitive total. We had beaten Multan before in the tournament and we took confidence from that, but also it is a final and anything can happen and we just came with the mindset to enjoy every moment.

23:25 local: After smashing 87 off the last 6 overs with the bat, Qalandars had the momentum going and they never allowed their opponents to grab that away from them. Removed 4 wickets in 8 overs and despite a quickfire 51-run stand between Tim David and Khushdil Shah, the required rate kept climbing up with each passing over. Skipper Shaheen looked completely frustrated having conceded 16 off his second over, but he roared back with extra fire in his belly for the second spell and killed the game in his third over with two wickets in 4 balls. The fielding was exceptional from the Qalandars and the Professor Hafeez delivered with both bat and ball when it mattered the most. Plenty of player reactions coming right up, stay tuned....
