Bangladesh storm into the semis of the under-19 world cup. They were clincial in batting and bowling department today but their fielding was absolutely outstanding. They look a serious unit and Kiwis, just like Proteas would also face a trial by spin against Bangla Tigers. That's it for today, join us back for the last QF between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Remember, the winner of the game would clash against India. Goodbye and take care!
Akbar Ali: Extremely happy. When we started the tournament, our aim was to make it to the Semis. Now we have to focus and do well from here. After the toss we thought?anything around 240 was a good total, our plan was that. Our top 5 batted really well, we kept wickets in hand and in the final 10, we exploded. It's about character, everyone wants to reach the finals. I have to give credit to the batters. After the first innings, our spinners did well. It's a complete performance.
Bryce Parsons: Credit must go to them (Bangladesh). They batted and bowled really well. We just lost it with the bat. In the middle overs, we struggled against spin and that's been one of our problems. We were happy after the start we got. Our bowlers did a good job to restrict?them to 260 but we didn't bat well. Our idea was to keep wickets in hand but that didn't work for us. It's been a good learning and very good experience, we couldn't get past the quarter final unfortunately. We have learnt a lot. We are looking forward to the next qualifier game.
Rakibul Hasan | Player of the match: It's a very good finish. We had our plans and we executed well. I was bowling wicket-to-wicket and varied my pace. It's a slow pitch and had assistance for spinners.
17:09 Local Time, 15:09 GMT, 20:39 IST: Utter jubilation in the Bangladesh camp. They have outplayed South Africa in every aspect of the game and have knocked hosts out of the tournament. They were asked to bat first early this morning which proved to their advantage. They were able to reach 261 courtesy the effort of Tanzid Hasan at the top and Shahadat Hossain in the middle order. The target always looked above par. South Africa wanted their openers to fire to have a chance, they couldn't and in the middle phase, Bangladesh spinners choked South Africa. The ball was spinning and gripping on that track and South Africa batters couldn't even rotate strike and the pressure kept building up. Whenever they looked to unleash, they lost wickets. Rakibul Hasan in particular was outstanding for Bangladesh. He ended up with stunning figures of 5/19 and made sure his team marched into the semis. Luke Beaufort was the only batter who showed some fight for the hosts. His 60-run knock gave them a glimmer of hope but with the required going above, he had a mountain to climb and his innings only reduced the margin of defeat for South Africa. Presentation to follow.
